“The timing of Holdfire’s entry into the market could not be better. With the introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 planned for October 2006, many care homes are conducting fire risk assessments and the common practice of wedging open fire doors will come under scrutiny”

In many care homes, fire regulations require almost every door to be self-closing. While this is important from a fire safety perspective, it limits the choice of residents to keep their doors open, hampers their mobility and makes additional work for staff having to help residents into and out of their rooms. Furthermore, consequent damage by trolleys, hoists, etc. adds significant and tangible costs.
Invariably doors get wedged open but such practices are highly dangerous and can lead to criminal prosecutions.
To date many proprietors have fitted hold open devices, either battery powered units that “listen” for an alarm or magnetic holders pinning doors back against the nearest wall. The issue with such devices is that they look institutional and many residents are unable to manage the complex release mechanisms, limiting their independence and right to privacy.
Holdfire systems are designed to overcome these issues and offer discreet, non institutional devices that are easily operable by older people and those with disabilities.
Holdfire offer two solutions, a simple concealed magnetic Door Holder and Carefree, the ultimate solution for residential care.
